Meningococcal Vaccination
We offer meningococcal vaccinations at Unichem Petone Pharmacy. Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the brain and spinal cord lining) and septicaemia (blood poisoning) — both can be life-threatening.
Who Should Get It?
Particularly important for:
- Adolescents and young adults aged 13–25, especially those entering shared living such as university hostels, boarding schools, or military barracks
- People with certain medical conditions (no spleen, complement deficiency)
- Travellers to areas where meningococcal disease is more common
- Close contacts of someone with meningococcal disease
Vaccines Available
We offer the meningococcal ACWY vaccine (covers four common strains) and the meningococcal B vaccine. Talk to us about which is right for you.
Cost
Funded for some groups (close contacts, certain medical conditions, hostel-bound 13–25 year olds for a one-off catch-up). Otherwise paid — ask us about current pricing.
