Shingles Vaccination
We offer the shingles vaccination at Unichem Petone Pharmacy. Shingles is caused by the same virus as chickenpox (varicella zoster) — after you have had chickenpox, the virus can reactivate later in life as shingles.
Who Should Get It?
Adults aged 50 and over are recommended to consider the shingles vaccine, particularly those 65+ who are at higher risk. Free for those aged 65 (one-off catch-up between 65th and 80th birthday).
What Does It Protect Against?
Shingles itself — a painful rash, typically on one side of the body — and post-herpetic neuralgia, long-lasting nerve pain that can persist for months or years after the rash heals.
How Is It Given?
Two doses, 2 to 6 months apart.
Cost
Free for eligible patients (see above). Otherwise paid — ask us about current pricing.
